The free ride is over. The food, the clothes, the lodging. We felt we had coddled the girls for too long and any prolongation could only weaken their character and compromise their moral fiber.

 

As can be seen in the photo, Greta’s not getting the message. Sophie has a few more years of hard labor under her belt and is showing the appropriate dolor. After the sweeping comes the scrubbing of the hearth, so maybe a few hours among the cinders will set her straight.
